Little Cottonwood Canyon

Located 15 minutes south and east of Salt Lake City.

                     

      Little Cottonwood Canyon is composed mostly of Granite rock. The rock in this canyon is not the same as other popular climbing areas like Yosemite. Here the rock crystals are larger and the bond between them not nearly as strong. When climbing in Little Cottonwood Canyon expect to find it a little dirty and most of the moves to be friction by nature. Walls like The Egg have deposits of harder rock that erode slower leaving knobs and other features in the surface of the granite. There are walls in this canyon like Hellgate Buttress which is Limestone and Humane Society Wall which is Quartzite.
